Judging underway soon for 2009 Tabbies

CLEVELAND—The 2009 Tabbies are in the final stretch. All English language trade, association or business to business magazines and websites are eligible for this editorial, design and online competition.

Your magazine doesn't have to be located in a particular country or belong to a specific organization to participate. In fact, we've had more than 700 entries in each of the past few years from across the globe: New Zealand, South Africa, the United States, the U.K., Canada, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and the list goes on. Please click here to download our Call for Entries brochure. An editable version of our entry form is here.

This year's Tabbies are being promoted by partners in numerous countries, including New Zealand's Magazine Publishers Association (MPA); Australia's Society of Editors NSW; South Africa's Magazine Publisher's Association of South Africa (MPASA), TABPI South Africa and the Southern African Freelancers Association (SAFREA); and the U.S.-based American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).

Judges are culled with the assistance of TABPI's worldwide partnering organizations. Specific judging criteria varies by category. In general, editorial entries are rated on such items as headlines, decks, leads, reporting, tone, use of sources, and organization. Design entries are examined for imagery, placement, clarity, font choices, colors, screens, and appeal to readers, among other criteria. Online entries are judged on editorial basics, reporting, interactivity, design, and usefulness to the user.

The competition is open to trade, association and business websites or magazines published at least four times per year, completely or partially in English. Publications must accept paid advertising. All work must have a publication date of 2008.

You may download the Call for Entries brochure here. An editable version of the entry form is here. Winners will be announced on or about July 1st, 2009.
