Judging comments:
"Everything from the photos, typography and layout came together to create a top-notch feature design. The photographs and their 'tear' borders are all very good. The tear treatment on the pull-out page is really well executed. Overall, an excellent feature layout that is award-worthy. This layout is phenomenal and one of the best I've seen as a Tabbie judge. The photos and typography are spot-on but what impressed me most was the use of the cut paper combined with the medical illustrations. I've seen plenty of die-cut pages in my day and they often don't add anything other than a gimmicky 'reveal' and medical illustrations can come across as being cold and clinical (pardon the pun). However, the design team took a risk—diecuts and other paper treatments aren't cheap, and using it with a medical illustration? As soon as I flipped the fold-over section showing the before/after of an ACL tear, this layout went right to the top in this category. Excellent choices by the designers—this layout is an inspiration."

"The headline was an extremely creative treatment that sets a great tone for the article. The photos are top notch and the layout has a great flow. It’s a very nice overall package. When I think of school cafeteria food, 'fun' isn't the first word that comes to mind. This layout made me reconsider that - love the treatment of the opening headline, and the 'vignettes' are perfectly arranged, keeping the focus on the food and the school-themed props playing a supporting role."

"Outstanding artwork. The designer did an excellent job customizing everything. The layout is clean and well organized and has an interesting look and feel to it. The colors and typography are also very strong. The feature package is visually compelling to look at and was well done from beginning to end.
A very creative layout - nice use of the rustic imagery reworked with modern touches. The color palette does a nice job of keeping the pages consistent."

"Merging the iPad with the traditional voting booth was a very strong and interesting way of tying the two subjects together. The headline ties in perfectly and the composition is great. Good use of a clean color palette that doesn’t detract from the photo or overall message. The colors draw you in and makes you want to look around at everything. Excellent job putting two iconic images together (voting booth and smartphone) to create a successful cover."

"Excellent job combining all of the elements together. It looks as if the shoot took place just as you see it. The overall color scheme is strong and the composition and placement of the subject is strong as well. There's a lot going with this layout, but the attention to detail makes it a standout."

"Great job putting all the pieces together to make a seamless cover. The main artwork is strong and the attention to detail is impressive. Good color scheme and choice of fonts.
The illustration style bring energy to the cover. A 'big' illustration for a big issue - this has the right balance of brawn and beauty."

"A very strong photograph and appealing cover. The perspective down the aisle and contrast of his purple shirt is nice. It has a warm and friendly look and feel to it. Having the shot in a collegiate setting versus a golf course was a good move. Fantastic photo in a unique setting! Grabs your attention and makes you want to know more."

"If using a bold and colorful graphic, I tend to recommend a more simple type treatment; in this case, the designer did a great job going with equally bold and colorful type - not an easy accomplishment. Fantastic cover with lots of engery! Love the color choice, type and image.
